The Netherlands have concluded national insurance treaties with various countries. These are mainly European countries. If you are insured in a treaty country, you are entitled to urgent medical care when you visit another treaty country. You will have to be able to prove you are insured, which you can do by applying for the European Health Insurance Card in the country where you are insured.

In other words, if you come to the Netherlands from an EU or treaty country to study, you will not have to take out separate medical expenses insurance. We do recommend you take out insurance for your luggage, third-party liability and legal assistance. This too is something HollandZorg can help you with. You can take out HollandZorg Student Insurance without reimbursement of medical expenses.
For information about how to apply for the EHIC in the participating countries, please visit the website of the European Commission.
