Personal contribution public healthcare insurance
When you take out health insurance in the Netherlands, certain healthcare provided on the basis of public healthcare insurance is subject to a statutory personal contribution or maximum reimbursement. This means you pay some of the medical costs. The Dutch government determines which type of care is subject to a statutory personal contribution. The extent of this amount is the same for everyone. With a supplementary insurance of HollandZorg, (some of) the personal contribution may be reimbursed.
Statutory personal contribution in 2023
Each year, the Dutch government determines which type of care from the basic package is subject to a statutory personal contribution. The government also determines the extent of the amount. Below are a number of examples of healthcare from the public healthcare insurance that is subject to a statutory contribution in 2023:
Statutory personal contribution for medical aids
A number of medical aids are subject to a statutory personal contribution. You pay this personal contribution to the supplier of the medical aid. Read the Medical Aids Regulations (PDF) to find out whether or not your medical aid is subject to a personal contribution.
Statutory personal contribution for maternity care
In 2023, maternity care at home is subject to a statutory personal contribution of €4,80 per hour. There is also a personal contribution of €19,- a day for the mother and the child (together €38,-) for maternity care in a hospital or institution, if such stays are not medically required. If the rate of the institution is higher than €137,- per day, the difference will be payable by you too.
Statutory personal contribution for transport
In 2023, seated patient transport is subject to a statutory personal contribution of €113,- per person and calendar year. This is the use of public transport, your own transport and transport by taxi together.
