Contraceptives are medicines that prevent pregnancy.

Reimbursements

When will you qualify for reimbursement?

Under public healthcare insurance, you will qualify for the reimbursement of the contraceptives specified by the government:

  • if you are younger than 21, or
  • if the contraceptives are necessary to treat certain complaints. The exact conditions are set out in Appendix 2 of the Healthcare Insurance Regulations (Regeling zorgverzekering; in Dutch).

Please note: condoms do not fall under the contraceptives specified by the government.

Do you not qualify for reimbursement under the basic health insurance? If you are 21 or older, you may be entitled to reimbursement of contraceptives on the basis of your supplementary insurance.

The following contraceptives qualify for reimbursement:

  • the contraceptive pill
  • the ‘contraceptive injection’
  • the spiral
  • the hormonal contraceptive plaster

Maximum rates for a non-contracted care provider

Have you chosen a healthcare provider with whom we have no contract? Then, we will reimburse according to our maximum rates. If the rate invoiced by the non-contracted care provider is higher than our maximum rates, you will have to pay the difference yourself. You will be able to find contracted care providers with our Care finder.
