Finding your healthcare provider

Find a healthcare provider near you using our Care Finder.

Of course, when you need healthcare, you’d prefer to visit a healthcare provider close to home. Our Care Finder helps you find a healthcare provider in your area. You can also see whether we have a contract with that provider. These are our contracted healthcare providers. We also enter into new contracts with healthcare providers throughout the year. That’s why we update our Care Finder several times a week.

Non-contracted healthcare provider

You can usually also seek treatment from healthcare providers with whom we have not signed a contract. In such cases, you may have to pay an additional fee. This may apply to physiotherapy, medicines and seated patient transport. For a full overview, please refer to the price list for non-contracted care. In some cases, you will need authorisation from us for care provided by a non-contracted healthcare provider. Our terms and conditions specify whether this is required for each type of care. If you do not have authorisation and you do go to a non-contracted healthcare provider, we may not reimburse the costs.

What to look out for when choosing a healthcare provider

  • Does the healthcare provider meet our requirements?

A healthcare provider must meet certain conditions before we will reimburse you. You can read about the requirements a healthcare provider must meet in our policy conditions. For example, one condition may be that a healthcare provider is a member of a specific professional association. You may also sometimes need our prior authorisation or a referral for certain types of care.

  • GPs

You can visit any GP in the Netherlands. Usually, you will see your own GP. If, for example, you need a GP whilst on holiday, you can visit the nearest GP to your holiday address. For emergencies outside of surgery hours, you can visit an out-of-hours GP service. You will need to make an appointment first to be seen there. To do so, call the GP out-of-hours service directly. The staff at the GP out-of-hours service will tell you if and when you can be seen.

  • Specialist medical care

We negotiate with healthcare providers regarding the costs and quality of care. As part of this, we regularly agree on the maximum annual reimbursement. We do our utmost to ensure that these agreements do not affect you. You can still access healthcare providers, even if the maximum annual reimbursement has already been reached.
Unfortunately, we cannot rule out the possibility that there may be consequences. Should a healthcare provider refuse to treat you after the maximum reimbursement for that year has been reached, we will help you find another healthcare provider who can provide the care you need. This is also stated in our healthcare finder.
In 2026 you will still be able to visit almost all hospitals in the Netherlands.

  • Dentists

You can visit any dentist in the Netherlands. Please note: most dental care for adults is NOT covered by basic insurance. You should therefore always check first whether you have taken out supplementary dental insurance.

  • Maternity care

Are you pregnant? If so, you are entitled to maternity care after giving birth. You must register for maternity care before the 16th week of your pregnancy. Ask your midwife for advice, or use our Care Finder to find a registered maternity nurse in your area.

  • Turnover cap

We make agreements with healthcare providers regarding the costs and quality of care. We regularly agree on the maximum annual reimbursement (turnover cap). In principle, we do not make agreements regarding the amount of care a healthcare provider must provide (volume agreement). We do our utmost to ensure that agreements on a turnover cap do not affect you. You can still contact the healthcare providers, even if the turnover cap has been reached.
Unfortunately, we cannot rule out the possibility that there will be no consequences at all. If a healthcare provider is no longer willing to treat you (for the rest of the year) after the turnover cap has been reached, we will help you find another healthcare provider who can provide the care you need.
In the exceptional event that there are potential consequences, we will state on our website which healthcare providers are affected and what the potential consequences are.

  • Other terms and conditions for supplementary insurance

Different terms and conditions may apply to the reimbursement of healthcare under supplementary insurance compared to basic insurance, such as for the reimbursement of specialist medical care.

Contracting

If your healthcare provider does not yet have a contract with us, you can ask them to enter into a contract with us. Please also send us an email with your healthcare provider’s details. We will then send your healthcare provider a contract offer, stating that we are doing so at the request of an insured person.
