Hearing aids

Hearing aids help you hear better and reduce any restrictions you may have in day-to-day life.

Reimbursement

By virtue of the HollandZorg public health insurance, you can be reimbursed for various types of hearing aids:

  • classic hearing aids;
  • simple hearing aids;
  • deaf loop systems, infrared devices and FM devices;
  • BAHA soft band;
  • text and video telephones plus corresponding software;
  • alarm and warning systems;
  • solo equipment;
  • hearing dogs.

Partially implantable hearing aids do not fall within this category. Read the Medical Aids Regulations to find out which hearing aids you qualify for.

When do you qualify for reimbursement?

Depending on the hearing aid you require, other conditions apply in order to qualify for reimbursement. The Medical Aids Regulations outlines these conditions.

Referral required for hearing aids

Your general practitioner has to refer you to an ear, nose and throat doctor or an audiological centre for a hearing test. They can establish the cause and gravity of your hearing problems, making sure you are offered the right solution.

If you need a hearing aid due to age-related loss of hearing, your general practitioner may also refer you directly to a contracted audiometric technician. This may be the case for electric-acoustic hearing aids, earpieces, simple hearing aids and deaf loop systems.

On loan or owner?

Depending on the type of hearing aid, it is given on loan or you will become the owner. Read the Medical Aids Regulations for more information.

Reimbursement hearing aids

Maximum rates non-contracted provider

If you are planning on going to a (care) provider with whom we have not concluded an agreement in order to get a hearing aid, we will apply a maximum reimbursement. The non-contracted provider has to comply with the conditions set out in the Medical Aids Regulations.

The costs of a medical aid that we sell to you are reimbursed up to a maximum of 75% of the costs we would incur if you would have received the care from a contracted provider. In that case, we also reimburse a maximum of 75% of any repair costs in connection with the medical aid.

The costs of a medical aid that we would normally give on loan are reimbursed per calendar year. We will reimburse a maximum of 75% of the costs we would incur for providing that care on loan in that calendar year. We set off the number of days you are entitled to those medical aids against the number of days you actually have the medical aid at your disposal in that calendar year.

Statutory personal contribution

Are you 18 or older? Then, by virtue of the public healthcare insurance, hearing aids are subject to a statutory personal contribution of 25% of the purchase costs.

Excess

Are you 18 or older? The costs of hearing that become your property count towards the compulsory and any voluntary excess.

The excess does not apply to medical aids given on loan, such as the text and video telephone, solo equipment and hearing dogs.

Who can you go to?

You can obtain a hearing aid from a contracted (care) provider. Our Care Guide helps you find a provider near you. If you have any questions, please call our Care Advice Line on +31(0)570 687 123. Our expert staff will be pleased to answer your questions.

You can also go to a non-contracted provider to get hearing aids. However, this provider will have to meet our criteria before he can provide such care. For some medical aids (yet not all of them), that is: a StAr-certified provider of medical aids.

Maximum rates for a non-contracted care provider

Have you chosen a healthcare provider with whom we have no contract? Then, we will reimburse according to our maximum rates. If the rate invoiced by the non-contracted care provider is higher than our maximum rates, you will have to pay the difference yourself. You will be able to find contracted care providers with our Care finder.
