Stop smoking programme

A 'Stop smoking' programme is intended for people who want to give up smoking. Medicines may form part of the 'giving up smoking' programme.

Reimbursement

Guidance for giving up smoking may also form part of general practitioner care, medical specialist care, obstetric care or psychological care.

You don't qualify for reimbursement for a 'giving up smoking' programme if you receive guidance for giving up smoking as a part of integrated care.

Maximum rates non-contracted care

Are you going to a health care provider with whom we have made no agreements? In that case we reimburse the rates of the price list for non-contracted care. Are the rates of the non-contracted care provider higher than our maximum rates, then the difference is for your own account.

No statutory personal contribution

You will not pay any statutory personal contribution for the ‘giving up smoking’ programme under the public healthcare insurance.

Policy excess

The Stop Smoking programmes designated by us are listed in the overview 'Designated Care Not Subject to Compulsory Excess' (PDF). The costs therefore do not count towards the compulsory excess.

Who may provide this type of care?

The following care providers are permitted to provide this type of care:

  • a general practitioner who provides the Stop Smoking Programme;
  • a care provider who:
    • is registered in the Stop Smoking Quality Register;
    • delivers the intervention offered in accordance with the Stop Smoking care module and which complies with the guideline ‘Treatment of Tobacco Addiction and Stop Smoking Support’;
  • a care provider for giving up smoking, contracted by us.

Please note: we did not contract any hospitals for Giving up Smoking programmes. If you receive hospital treatment from a lung specialist in order to give up smoking, medication will not be reimbursed.

Neither have we contracted any mental healthcare institutions for Giving up Smoking programmes. A psychologist or a psychiatrist may give you advice about giving up smoking and prescribe medication but this medication too will not be reimbursed.
